Chance is relieved that Mr. Holmes is dead, even though he relied on him as a father figure. Chance’s own father has become an introvert and hardly talks to anyone, including his own son. Still, Chance likes to believe his father is still coping with their loss. Chance remains an active slayer, but he hasn’t actually killed anybody since last semester. In fact, he mostly goes out to patrol the streets when he can’t sleep. He has thought about inviting Julie, but he hasn’t actually gotten around to it. He can’t help but think he misses the old days, especially when he strikes up an unlikely friendship.
