Grave Expectations

PLOT

The students of Parkers Canyon prepare for their Homecoming game against the Santa Clarita Jaguars. At the Homecoming dance, the students take a final stand against the Night Hag, whose sinister plan is almost complete.

  • CJ is investigating the woods around his house, certain he can still smell whoever was there the night before. He finds a crumpled piece of paper which turns out to be the article; Torrance dropped it.

  • Cyrus relays what he learned from Lindsey to the Circle witches and Dolly. He reveals that the Hag must perform a sacrificial ritual in order to permanently possess a witch. He also mentions that she is targeting the psychics, who can easily see her when she’s possessing a person. They devise to make a plan, while Jenny already prepares for a “Plan B.”

  • Two weeks later, Blaise’s parents call to inform them that they will be returning from their cruise and will be bringing back a surprise for him.

  • Dolly visits Oliver’s house only to find it empty; he is being held hostage along with his mother in Mr. Holmes’ basement. Mr. Holmes tells Kayden he is leaving in search of “stones,” but he will be back “in time.”

  • At the school’s tailgate for Homecoming, Torrance requests a chat with Tessa. He comes clean about his investigating and reveals his suspicion that CJ was involved in her parent’s death.

  • Marc officially asks Lilly to the Homecoming dance, buying her a ticket.

  • Emmaleigh texts Kylie Blue and berates her for “leaving town.” She thinks Kylie has run away with an older man.

  • A slutty cheerleader tries to tempt CJ, and Tessa becomes jealous when she sees this. Julie pulls him away, saving him from temptation. However, he notices Tessa is upset and confronts her. She immediately demands what he knows about her parents. CJ plays it off like he knows nothing, not wanting to say anything until he figures it out for sure for himself.

  • Blaise pulls Lilly aside, and she confirms that Marc asked her to the dance before he could. He is understandably disappointed. CJ consoles him in the locker room before the game. Marc approaches CJ and offers him tickets he bought for him and Tessa, but CJ declines them. Marc slides them into his locker, relentless.

  • Luna and Victoria go to the game together. Mike goes alone, not knowing if he even wants to see Julie. The Parkers Canyon Ravens play against the Santa Clarita Jaguars. It’s all very sporty.

  • On the court, CJ bumps shoulders with a rival member of the Jaguars (Luke Vincent). He immediately senses the player is a werewolf. The player taunts CJ throughout the game.

  • During halftime, Victoria asks Luna to the Homecoming dance. Marc confronts CJ about his aggressive playing, and CJ accuses him of being a bad Captain.

  • The game starts again, as does the rival player’s taunting of CJ. Julie apologizes to Mike for abruptly leaving the last time they spoke. He accepts. She questions him about his vampirism, and they spend the rest of the game together.

  • Blaise scores the final point of the game resulting in a win for the Parkers Canyon Ravens. After, CJ confronts and shoves the rival player, who shoves back. Tessa holds CJ back. The rival player leaves, insulting CJ and informing him that his father is a cop.

  • Lilly decides to host a victory party at her home and invites the students. CJ goes to Tessa’s and offers her flowers in reconciliation. He also offers her the tickets Marc got them; she accepts both.

  • Julie confronts Dolly and asks what they decided to remove from her memory. Empathizing with her old friend, Dolly fully restores Julie’s memories of her time as a slayer.

  • In a flashback, it is revealed that Emmaleigh and Kylie were childhood best friends; Emmaleigh’s mother is confirmed to be a prostitute. It’s also revealed that Emmaleigh’s rivalry with Debbie goes way back. She actually cries remembering Kylie.

  • The lights flicker as Dolly has a vision of an impending fire consuming the basketball goal. She tells Lilly that she believes a fire will erupt at the Homecoming dance; they decide they’re still going to go.

  • Elijah confirms to Torrance that Dolly is “something else” and that Cyrus is in fact dead and a ghost.

  • Robby asks Jenny to the dance; Blaise later asks Dolly. Jenny accepts, but Dolly asks for time to think it over.

  • The next day, everyone prepares for the Homecoming dance. A group meets for coffee at Deja; Dolly accepts Blaise’s offer to go to Homecoming. Lilly admits it’s only slightly weird.

  • Lilly tells Emmaleigh about Dolly’s fire vision, and Emmaleigh immediately asks for her help. They then travel back to the campsite to retrieve Issa’s fallen body and move it to the dance to burn; they find everything except Issa’s right arm.

  • Torrance triumphantly informs Kyle he is going stag to the dance; he doesn’t need a man. He and Dolly then deduce that the Night Hag must be behind Tora’s disappearance.

  • Jenny and Kyle travel to Jenny’s and watch Emmaleigh and Lilly through a looking glass.

  • In his backyard, Kayden practices shooting arrows. He checks on Oliver and his mother, still tied up in the basement. He tells CJ about their captivity at the diner, scared that his father is going to far with his slayer duties.

  • Soon after everyone arrives for the dance, the lights begin to flicker. The Principal takes the stage to announce Homecoming King and Queen. Homecoming King is a tie between Marc and CJ, while Tessa wins Homecoming Queen.

  • Kayden’s father calls and tells him Kayden “knows what to do.”

  • While CJ dances with Tessa and Marc dances with Lilly, the Night Hag lurks in the shadows of the dance, slinking along the walls. She grabs Emmaleigh and takes possession of her. As Emmaleigh, the hag sets fire to the gym.

  • The sprinkler system goes off, and the Police order everyone to leave. The fire spreads as the sprinkler systems fails. However, before the characters can make it out, the Hag jumps from Emmaleigh’s body, slashes Garrett’s throat, and seals the doors shut.

  • When the Police Sheriff raises his gun at the Hag, she kills him.

  • CJ throws the fire extinguisher directly at the Night Hag. She screeches at him, dashing away and slashing at Tyler’s stomach. She then jumps on Ryder’s shoulders, pulling off his head. Ryder’s vampire body erupts into a mass of blood and veins.

  • The Hag possesses Kyle’s body next, using his telekinesis to break Emmaleigh’s arm, completing the Hag’s ritual. She takes permanent possession of Kyle’s body.

  • However, Jenny quickly initiates her Plan B, yelling at CJ to engage Kyle. When Kyle grabs Jenny by the throat, CJ intervenes. He proceeds to break Kyle’s neck, killing both him and the Night Hag.

  • With the Hag dead, Cyrus’ ghost body begins to disintegrate into nothing.

  • The fire engulfs the entire gym ceiling, but before anybody can leave, Mr. Holmes busts down the doors. He orders Kayden, Angel, and James, all armed with assault rifles, to begin opening fire on everyone in the gym. Screams and shots are heard as the episode cuts to black.
